When we were younger we were taught - NEVER sell your copyrights. Keep them forever. They will earn fortunes. But now we're older (and sometimes even dead) that seems impractical. I handed over some of my catalogue to others (Hipgnosis; Cherry Red) but still have kept all my personal recordings and songs - mainly through sentiment and nostalgia. Interesting though that the music of the 60s and 70s is SO much more valuable than today's hits. Why? Because, back then, we made crossover hits, loved by millions, not just specialist fan groups. Even looking at the last two hits I was directly involved in (late 90s) they were mass appeal, not specialist (Who Let The Dogs Out and I Get Knocked Down). I predict 2022 will see the punters revert to one off, "novelty", mass appeal hits.

According to the BPI today though (via independent radio news) the music industry is doing better today than ever before.

Of course, I doubt this is true. They most likely are basing this off record streaming of songs. Was much harder to flog a million discs or tapes, than get ten million streams of an artist's song(s)...
