I mentioned a while back that the reggae singer Mika was mightily teed off that a little upstart had swiped her name. At the time, people gave variations of the "get over it" line of advice.

Well, she hasn't. Since then, Mika (the UK version) has not disappeared and Mika (the European original) is having an increasingly hard time using a name that has been hers for nearly 20 years. Put simply, promoters are worried about booking her as they figure the audience will think it's the other Mika.

Quite simply someone`s got to give here.
We had a reg on a name for years before using it, the USA act with the same name got huge, and the first people to actually get funny about it were Last FM of all people.

But surely at the level these artistes are at somebody should have checked this out ages ago.

I bet, though, that her download sales have increased I`m afraid as a result of this.

Our own situation , as I probably mentioned before, was using UK in brackets after a title.

Do the download companies take any notice?

Nope.

Seem to recall Wham had the same problem. They had to call themselves 'Wham UK' when performing in America.

When I first saw Oasis listed in the chart I thought it was the band, of the same name, featuring Mary Hopkin and Peter Skellern. Of course once I heard them I realised it wasn't.
