Interesting bit of tech.

I know it's not the same however people still collect and buy 8 track carts. If I remember correctly the pressure pads used to crumble over time. Tapes just used to get distorted, sound drops/muffles, get chewed and snap.

I still see reel to reel tape albums on my travels.

Some second hand record shops still sell and trade laserdiscs.
