HOWEVER - I'm influenced here by hearing it a lot in Morocco where radio is like the UK from 30 years ago.

Likewise I heard Sean Kingston dozens of time and the new J-Lo and many more, most of which were never huge hits, some pre release, blended with some excellent Arabic local stuff (rai and soca now combining with Western pop and hip hop - very nice stuff).

It all sounds less rigid and manufactured than what we're getting in the UK, and, of course, the stations are NATIONAL and thus a few have big impact.

Hit Radio has some hugely irritating DJ's who laugh hysterically all the time.
Radio 2M (deux m) is good as is MEDI (Mediterranean - remember, the North Coast of Africa is on the Med).

Driving around, radio on maximum volume, air conditioning, terrific sights to see, wonderful motorways (Casa to Marrakech now 2 hours - used to be nearer 4).

Only the food still lets it down for me but there ARE some really good restaurants opening (again I recommend the MATSURI Japanese chain, French based but now opening throughout Morocco). And the THAI restaurant in the Amanjena Marrakech is very good. The wine glases (with huge long stems) are incredible.
