TOPIC: Peter Sarstedt

Peter Sarstedt 17 Years, 7 Months ago
Now I'm sure we all know Peter Sarstedt, and his great hit “Where do you go to, my lovely”,and of course he had a furthur hit with "Frozen Orange Juice".Followed up by a hit LP peaking in 1969 at no 8.
Well there the story ended for me,and probally your average Joe too.
Still the other day I borrowed 2 CDs of his,one his 69 Self titled, and from 1997 "England's Lane".
My question is,why did a man so talented not achieve much more in the music business?
His wikipedia reference is minimal, but according to his website he's released a lot of stuff. Not heard most of it,so can't comment.
I'd be interested in hearing the more experienced views available from JK and others please.

Hiya

I was on a gig with him in about 1996.(Streatham?)
An absolutely charming man who arrived only with his partner and sang the one tune(that I saw)and he appeared very shy (but I am horridly loud I`m afraid), I assume the material you have come by was recorded around that period as he appeared to be on a re-appearance trail, I won`t say comeback as I never thought he was away.
I told him I thought he was brilliant and his companion nudged him and said something like "there you go".
The rest of the evening is a bit of a blur, I`m afraid as there were too many new faces to take in at once.
Only the one impression, and that is of a very nice man indeed.

My mother went to see him a couple of years ago.

Tickets hadn't sold well but he still did the gig, they moved him to a smaller room.

He stayed around after quite a while to sign things and all that. She thought he was simply lovely.

If he hasn't sold more songs it could be because he's too decent a person - everyone who has met him seems to have a high opinion of him.

I actually got both the origional 69 LP,and one from 97..'England's Lane'
The 97 LP contains 2 songs that could easily have been hits, had the right effort been put into promotion.
1)England's Lane
2)British Museum
Also a follow up to "Where Do You Go To (My Lovely)" in the song "The Last of the Breed".

It's well worth searching out this newer LP,and for those who don't have the 69 origional, well what a great LP,not a weak song on it.

Thanks for the replies guys:)

I checked out Peter's official website and notice he doesn't have any audio samples of his music. I'd be more inclined to buy his new CD if I could listen to some of the tracks first. Maybe something for him to consider.

I found several other sites listing his CD, but none of them offered previews of the music. Seems like a bit of a marketing failure.
