I don't exactly look like a rhythm King!

OMG! I'm trying to think what I would have thought of this at the time: is this guy a total prat or is he pulling my leg? This is 1978, one year after the two sevens clashed, after all.

I remember the irresistible tune, needless to say.

No disrespect intended, but this is what happens when studio projects - particularly disco ones - have to have a public "face" and why Pan's People used to stand in.

I have a theory that disco was not a spectator sport. The vast majority of it was for picking up people in clubs. So the performer was not of much interest, as for the first time the listeners were the stars ("check out the dancing queen"). There were exceptions, of course. But it's still pretty much the same today. Frankly, who cares about what the DJs look like or if they can dance?

Don't knock it Mike - that wig broke that record!

It needed that little extra exposure - the clubs weren't breaking it - and the extraordinary performance sent it flying.

But I must admit to wincing when I see it now.

However, the purchase slip for that wig enabled me to produce it in evidence at my second trial when I was acquitted on all charges after proving I bought the damn thing several years after the false accuser lied about meeting me!

At long last... THE WIG!

JK is spot on about using that to help sell the record. The problem I always had with Disco was it was rather faceless. As long as it had that beat and the sound, you genuinely didn't care or remember who it was. Don't forget also that many jumped on the bandwagon so for a few years it really was Disco hell with many many records fighting to get noticed. So, to get noticed, one needed a memorable gimmick.

The day after JK's appearance on TOTP, everybody at school were talking about "the bloke with that wig" whilst some argued it must be a "real" head of hair... I hasten to add I was in the infants at the time! Plus it has to be remembered the wig was used throughout the promotion. I recall the first Guinness Book of Hit Singles... its cover had various stars lined up in a pose and there was JK standing out like a lighthouse in the wig!

So I think that proves JK's point about the wig. It got noticed, talked about and the record sold as a result. And a fine record it is too.

I`ve admitted this before and will again.

I actually didn`t know it was a wig until the day he took it off on telly.
