"God Wears a Nike" (great title!) is absolutely superb, very good job, played it 4 times already. Should be a hit for you.

Still "Shandy Bass" as a summer hit for me Mart. I still like the "not a care in the world" vibe about it.

Not care in the world, until you put the B side, on which might`ve been "God Wears A Nike", in which the geezer in the song might have got his credit card bill to pay for the day out!

(Ye gods,.... no concept album ever! I promise!)

Of the new songs I like "god wears Nike" and "eyes to the left" best. Both very different and show your versatility.

You must tell me your secret on how to get posters to respond to your requests for reviews on this tipsheet. I'm usually met with stunned silent empty space, although The Cat often makes an effort (thanks Mr Cat).

We try to be positive here PBS so whilst many listen, if they are not particularly keen they make no comment rather than be negative.

We always say - if you love something, say so; if it's not to your taste, it doesn't count.

I can handle negative feedback, so long as it's not just abusive for the sake of it. I'm sure most artists feel the same. Zero feedback doesn't help us one way or the other. Silence could indeed mean a thumbs down, or it could mean nobody has bothered listening; there's no way to be sure. Although with one of my tracks my visitor counter didn't move all week, so I'm pretty sure nobody listened to it.

Anyway, it was just a casual point. No worries.

For me no comment is because I have nothing constructive to say.. I'm not very bothered about being positive or negative ("Really zoo!" they gasp ).

Specifically with Mart he is, so far as anyone online can be, a friend. This means I'm willing to put more effort into responding to his posts and I can also simply say "I like/don't like that one" rather than make any useful comment.

I've noticed some posts don't get comment which is a shame because I'd hate anyone to be discouraged in posting.

Next time I'll try to make the effort, it seems a fair and reasonable thing to do.

I must admit, I am hesitant in posting links to my own stuff, but hey, songs are there to be heard so occasionally I do.
To all bands that don`t post, I have to say that on this particular occasion ,I noticed the Myspace counter really moved around at a sharp rate and lets face it , we all want to be listened too, maybe not all in search of a review though,(I never expect one, it really is very kind indeed,) but,its cool.
It keeps you on your toes.

Good songs as usual Mart.

On the reviews front, I usually try to give some sort of opinion. I was sent a CD of a young boy who was actually the worst singer I've ever heard. Those around him had led him to believe he was good, and had even put him on stage. I told him that his future wasn't in singing, but pointed out that he had the right character and confidence to make it in other areas. I think it's best to be honest, but to try and find something positive, even if my main response is negative. Constructive criticism.

Mart, God Wears Nike is a wonderfully crafted song, well delivered. Not sure the major media are ready for something of that quality, but if it can get heard I'm sure it will become popular. It's the getting heard that always seems to be the difficult bit.

I shall let you all into a little secret about "Nike".

I never once wrote it down, never formed a lyric or a chord chart and made it up as I went along, recorded it for amusement and then re-did it in the studio (without a click track) as the original was hissy . My drumming friend played over it, so I added some bass and that was it.
Judgeing by reaction to it, it is a lesson in songwriting to not let things go that pop into your head.

When the "let the thunder clouds roll over me", line appeared in my head and came out of my mouth at the same time, I had an eerie feeling that I may be in big trouble from above...
Another new track up today by the way that was mastered last night(but thats another story..)

Ain't that the truth. It's even harder now that the web is over saturated with "musicians". Let me pose this question to the board. What is an effective way anymore for a songwriter/musician to be "heard" without getting lost in the shuffle?

pitch your material to smaller labels and publishers...those who will listen and give you feedback that will help you move forward and develop your craft. Only the determined and talented willing to graft succeed and it's a long road my friend.

Write decent songs is a good start

Gig gig gig and gig.
The web is purely a replacement for tapes in jiffy bags and a quicker way of posting press releases and news.(+ its easier to make an attractive package than in a mail out)
You still have to make your, more exclusive audience want to listen.

I dont think the web is much more saturated than the postal services used to be and the pile is as difficult to filter through as it ever was, although less likely to fall off the desk and end up in a landfill site.

An Email-out is so much less hassle than burning, printing, licking and posting. I would wager there's 10 times more saturation on the web. You've also got to remember how much easier it is to create music these days.
