There is a massive row on ROTD regarding the appalling attitude from some cheap rag in response to downloading an album to listen to online and herein lies the problem with this industry.

Some jumped up journalist thinks that until you wrap the music with some physical plastic guff you have not given it due attention or value. This same rag i assume has a website which more people read than their precious magazine. I am absolutely livid as this attitude is exactly why I have no sympathy for certain elements of the old world music industry.

At least have the decency to be polite after all by reviewing a record you are NOT doing the artist a favour. They think they are just as the labels and managers think they are.

The point is without music they HAVEN'T got a career. It is time creators of music put a value on their product and STOP kowtowing to these buffoons. They are not worthy of having your product and should be begging for it.

On another note over the last year I have made more out of using online advertising to get my music out there than ANY press or PR coverage which is not translating into sales. I am beginning to think what is the point of going down the PR route.

Stick it up on YOutue and measure the CTR, ROI and hits. Give it to a journo and oh they won't review it and if they can be bothered to review it, you have to grovel at them as if they are GOD.

As you can imagine I have had it up to here with this attitude from the so called gatekeepers who are irrelevant today. They are only good for reporting the news after the fact.

Can someone show me who, in this internet age, has been broken by the media. They only seem to rush like sheep after the hit has been made. In which case they will be begging you for the interviews and press release. Hmm.

Good point. A lof of the music blogs seem to be quite snobby these days, only hyping bands for their cool instead of the music and with so many, who's actually reading them? Besides, they give away the bloody Mp3's anyway!

Calm down DJKZ. Let them do what they do. Find promoters for your music that will actually WORK with you and I mean WORK even to the point of conferring about the mix before you master and go public. I can't post names, but they are out there and they are good people. Find different routes, viral marketing, approach a few radio jocks to start with then build and do what can be done rather than letting all this emotive crap get you down.

If the ROTD crowd want to have a go, let them, but it will do no good.

It wasn't the ROTD crowd actually because they were very supportive of the 'said' band.

I just don't like it when people don't realise that without music they haven't got a job basically and a bit of grace and politeness doesn't go amiss.

Sure they have a lot of music to check out but then again that's their job.

Should I start moaning about how many bad singers I have to audition to find a good one ? No It's part of the job description.

But thanks anyway. I am plugging away doing what I can and finding the results very interesting.

It takes 2 seconds to put a CD in a stereo, and at least ten minutes to download an album. Surely it is common sense to make it easy for reviewers to listen to your record?

If I was a reviewer and a CD arrived at the same time as a download invitation(with no ability to preview), I know which I would listen to first.

It's laziness on the part of the band in my view - the Organ website even has a section explaining why they don't review mp3s!

And you'll notice that the exchange only becomes heated when the band complain.
