This could be a real surprise hit - Judy Dyble (original Fairport Convention vox) has remade One Sure Thing from the first Fairport album, with northern indie band the Conspirators. A wonderful song!

I got sent a demo, I can only find snippets on the web atm, here they are

www.myspace.com/judydyble
www.myspace.com/theconspirators

I think this could do very well...

Great site!

Peter.

Annoying snippets indeed...

Great vocals, is there two singers? I think there is. I like this a lot. Been a fan of Judys for what seems like ever

It's a collaboration with a North Yorkshire based band The Conspirators, the second singer is their singer Genevieve. It's a great tune, as are the other songs on the single.

I first listened to "take me to your leader" and was put off by the poor singing. Sorry, producer brain kicked in. But because I was typing I couldn't turn it off and then listened to the other tracks and yes very nice.

The picture is awful, she looks like one of the Conservative Women's Society types lol.

I've got to go along with DJKZ here, I listened when you first posted this and thought the same but decided not to respond as it's only my opinion.

But since you're now hyping I'll add my 2 cents.

"Surprise hit" - Certainly would be a surprise. It's awful.

I think awful is a ridiculous word to use. The other song is pretty moderate, but the Fairport remake is vaild, pacy, current and quite well thought out. Its going on my playlist.

- The song has a weak melody, no discernable hook.
- The production is bland, could have been a hook in there instead/also, but no. It

I've found the track(s)

quite like - i think if it gets the airplay it could indeed be a surprise hit for the old girl!

What I really want to see is these pictures you refer to - they sound like a hoot! where can we find them?

The Conspirators and Judy Dyble 4 track maxi single has reached No.7 in the UK Indie chart in it's first week of release and all 4 tracks are in 27,28,31,33 in the HMV Top 100 downloads chart.

Not bad for a rework of an old song, and a collaboration between an 'old Conservative type poodle hugging woman' and a fresh new Indie band eh?

DJKZ and Hypo Typo....oh ye of little faith!

Hey Phoenix, I do recall saying I liked her other tracks other than "Take Me To Your Leader". Great result though I must say. But I didn't like the photo.

Anyway, well done to them on a fabulous result.
How did they manage to do it ?

A lot of hard work...that's how they did it. They put on a lot of gigs up here (some of which I attended) and they're great, especially live. They deserve so much more than what they've achieved so far and I hope they do well - you all seem to judge them on this one single. Hypo Typo - did you listen to Robots and Turning Green on their Myspace? Incredible tunes, much better than what they put out for the single.

Hi DJKZ,

I have to agree with Bellatrixical....they have worked really hard on this and do deserve some radio airplay here in the UK. To get a into the UK Top 10 Indie chart with your first release is phenomenal. The collaboration with Judy Dyble was an inspired gamble by their manager Jon - Brilliant Management and the team at Transcend Records and from the interest shown, I think it's paying off.

I actually think the best track on the single is The Conspirators own 'Robots', which is a bonus track - if you go to the HMV site and download the 'One Sure Thing' 4 track single, it is not included on the CD but you can hear and download all 4 tracks separately.

It's really worth listening to...it's more gnarly and upbeat and I personally think it's a better production too. Think Clash meets Blondie!

'Turning Green' was featured on the Dead Famous 11 album about a year ago and has been in the US KIAC Independent chart all year, and it reached No.1!
Hopefully it will be released as a single here and if it gets half the download airplay it has in the USA, it should do well.

All they need now is to be picked up by a major label and who knows where they may end up?

As Bellatrixical says you can hear and download all these tracks on

www.myspace.com/theconspiratorsuk
or
www.theconspirators.co.uk

For more info checkout www.transcendrecords.co.uk
where you can read all about The Conspirators and Judy Dyble by accessing the EPK's.
