I like this, the track I heard (first track) has a lot of energy, catchy too.

My only quibble is that the vocalist used to sound like David Gray, so he added a drawl and a lamby rapid vibrato to cover it. If you get me.

Other than that though, great tip.

I saw this band on Sunday (on the same bill as the DASTARDS) and they were excellent. The vocal is a bit David Grey / Damien Rice but the musicianship & songs more than make up for it. Even bought the CD !

Yes.

All very well put together, could do very well.

Not sure if it's a bit like everyone else, even if it is it's a very good bit like everyone else

Well written songs, and fairly well delivered. I just needed to get used to the vocals. First impression was that they are very average. I needed to listen to all the songs before I could really get into them. I still think the songs are better than the performers.

Love them, love the vocals, think they are the best band I've heard since The Dastards.

It's like the Waterboys never happened. I'm sorry, this is unmitigated shit and the singer's voice is dire...like a cross between David Gray and Belinda Carlisle with that unlistenable vibrato.

R U JOKING! I just checked out the link and this band is good, great songs which have a slight nod to the waterboys. I like his voice too. Anyone who says this is shit doesn't really know what they're talking about. Get yourself some ears mate...

Spot on Tipster G. (I was too polite to say the same thing!) These guys (and girl who plays violin and sings - at the same time!) are the real deal.

There is an issue with the vocals. Are these live recordings?

They sound like an interesting band, but I don't share everyone else's enthusiasm to the same degree.

I've been in the industry a long time, have nothing to do with the band and have never seen them live. What I do know is that this is good. His voice has a love it or hate it tone and is reminiscent of David Gray, so what? This project has international legs, if it doesn't get signed I'll be very surprised.

This is interesting, I got wind of these guys a couple of days ago and quite liked it. The comments are very varied to say the least, but I suppose that's what good about tip sheets like this. Keep writing guys...

Re:MATTHEW BENNETT BAND 17 Years, 4 Months ago
the fact that people have the inclination to discuss these guys (and girl) OBVIOUSLY shows that they are WORTH discussing!!! and there's something special about them!
i think these lot are brand new and totally original, nothing out there at the moment that has the same modern slant on traditional folk! im very excited to see what could come of them!! i hope they are a success, id certainly buy their album.. i bet it would tell a great story, just like folk songs do!
im going to d/l their E.P now actually........ and check them out at their next gig.. to hear them powerful vocals first-hand!
