Eurovision Contenders 17 Years, 3 Months ago
Michelle Gayle, Andy Abraham, LoveShy, The Revelations, Rob McVeigh and Simona Armstrong.

They are the artists/groups that are fighting it out for the UK Eurovision Entry.

Apart from the first two, have not heard of the others (not that it's necessarily a bad thing), lets just hope that we actually get a good entry, as the last 5 entries we've had have been bloody awful.

It's up to the viewers to choose, is that a good or bad thing. When you were in charge JK, what did you do, was it a phone vote?

Yes Mike - I brought in the whole phone vote thing (for my sins - it's now awful) - but the key was - giving higher class finalists for the choice.

And my reason being - much though I might love something (wasn't Yodel In The Canyon Of Love fun?) those viewers seeing something once reflected the likely verdict of the ultimate Eurovision voters - one look and listen had to convince.

I seem to recall we always had more than one look and listen to each entry, thanks to Mr Wogan, prior to the voting date.

Thanks for letting us know and the programme was called 'A Song for Europe'.

Reading your attitudes and opinions on the Eurovision, I would agree with Gina G's song being the best entry. It was a massive No 1 hit in the UK and I remember it being a great hit in the clubs.

I just hope that we choose a decent entry, as Scooch's vocal performance was just woeful last year. I still believe that if the song is great, then we would have a chance of winning it. It's all well and good, saying that the Eurovision is rigged with bloc voting, but our songs have been no good since 2003. Even before then, we can't say that the UK has been that popular.

I'm not sure how it will be decided, but I'm sure in 1996 and 1997, that there was a semi-final and the best songs went through to the Final. I think they performed on TOTP 2 or was it Radio 2.

Maybe they should revert back to that format, it provided decent songs for Eurovision.

There used to be eight songs aired on Wogan's radio show, which the Radio 2 listeners whittled down to four for the TV show. Towards the end of that format, some very good songs were falling by the wayside.

The BBC is trying a different format this year. The acts are split into three categories- soloists, Girl groups and Joseph versus Maria. The panel will decide which go through to the final phase, with Terry having the casting vote if there is a tie. I think another song gets a wildcard through televoting.

I hope the panel/viewers make a less insane choice than that bloody awful Scooch song this year!
