Eurovision 2008 17 Years, 3 Months ago
All 6 songs are pretty ordinary in my opinion.

Here's the one I wrote for it which was rejected...

That's a fairly chirpy number, JK. Who's the vocalist?

I haven't actually heard any of the official entries yet.

Hi JK

We need a UK selection show with at least two semi finals and a final as well as proper fair preselection.

Of the contenders that I have heard so far from abroad I think the Maltese entry Vodka ticks the right boxes.

The UK entry would amaze me if it was good enough to stand a chance. That is very sad as we have the talent to win even with the alleged eastern european bias.

In a close contest with no standout song parochialism may prove crucial but I believe that if a song is head and shoulders above the rest it will win regardless of which country it is from.

Not bad JK, not bad at all. Girl sounds a bit like Mutya Buena. Perhaps you should pitch it at her.

I really like the strings, very 70s sounding but good 70s. Reminds me of when I was at school. One thing you do well is write songs with strings in them.

You should release it. One other thing about it and this is not a criticism. It reminds me of one of those songs you see in cartoons like Scooby Doo, when there is a band playing. So perhaps your video guy should just rip one of the video sequences.

It's by Gloria Gorgeous and may yet be seen and heard by millions!

Saturday show - well I think they are all ordinary but my friend Denise (who was a Tipsheet regular and very early tipping us about Robson and Jerome - BEFORE Simon Cowell picked up on them) is behind one so we'll support...

LOVESHY

simply because we like Denise.

Also their song may be related to my artiste Gloria Gorgeous!

Tension mounts - who will be representing us?
Listening to the montage of past Eurovision songs on BBC breakfast (including 3 of my era - Gina G, Love City Groove and Katrina) they actually stood up to the test of time to sound, predominantly, like rather good pop.

Absolutely, JK.
In fact, it made me smile watching the montage the BBC is using to trail the programme, with the theme of learning from our mistakes- except even those songs are better than our recent offerings.

Hey, we could have been up against each other. That would have been something. Alas, our track is also an also-ran (or also-stumbled at the first hurdle, actually). I don't have a link.

Well I must say Michelle Gayle came through as far and away the best... now let's see if she's chosen.

On the performance, possibly, but I don't like the song at all. My least favourite of all six, and another banker for nul points at Eurovision, or a bottom four placing at least. The "experts" plugging it, so no doubt it's on its way.

I still favour the Simona song which I predicted originally but I've lost hope in it standing any chance of winning now.

My favourite song was the second one on with the three girls, but it was a pretty ordinary performance and I felt they didn`t look a convincing unit, maybe only at this stage.

Pacobel, made three appearances as usual,(!) Michelle Gayle was class but that song sounds pretty uninteresting here.

Best performance was by Gayle, but the song sound uncannily like DOn't Mess With My Toot Toot in parts,...

Well I have to say, nice though he seems, I don't think Andy stands a hope in hell at Eurovision.

Katrina sounded good.

Anyone spot me in the Eurovision montage?

Not a hope in hell indeed. Serious hope of coming last though. The songs in 3rd and 4th would have scored some points at least and given some semblance of respectability to the UK entry. You'd have to blame the "experts" and Mr. Wogan for steering the UK public into voting the wrong way.

No, I didn't spot you in the montage, JK, despite the advantage of watching it on video with a pause button. But then, I have been drinking. Something Terry and I have in common!

I thought all of the songs were equally uninspiring. I continue to get the impression that songs that might otherwise be tossed into the bin are entered into Eurovision. Other countries tend to make much more of an effort.

We should either try harder or pack it in.

Do check out my attempt Cat (and Michael's if he can give us a link) - admittedly one man's hit is another man's flop (I cannot stand the Irish turkey song) but I do think What's A Girl To Do? might have stood a decent stab at winning.

Interesting that this thread has now had 4,012 views... yet the topic does not even seem to exist on other music boards.

Surely, like it or not, Eurovision and our entry is one of the highest profile events in music?

Huge ratings, major channel exposure, vast viewing figures for the final contest... it always does much better than The Brits or Grammys.

Yet "music people" sneer at it and allow it to be run by TV people (except for a brief era in the late 90's!!).
