Mystery White Boy - Best Live Album Ever? 17 Years, 3 Months ago
Yesterday, I listened to Jeff Buckley's Mystery White Boy for the first time.

I have to say, that this is one of the most amazing records I have ever heard.

Usually, 'live' records are a big let down. For me, this is usually because the vocals have not been recorded in the 'safety' of the studio. Live tracks, on record, are usually pale imitations of their studio equivalents...

Well, not in this case. This sounds much better than most studio albums I have heard recently. I was completely captivated from start to finish.

This man was a genius. It is a tragedy that he is no longer with us.

RIP, Jeff.

I'm a big fan of Jeff Buckley, but don't have this live album, so I'll check it out asap.

I quite like "live" albums ... good memories of a good gig etc, but think they should be seen as "separate" to an artist's studio work.

Faves include the Graham Parker live album, Thin Lizzy's Live & Dangerous and also one by Cockney Rebel (but can't remember what its called - "Face to Face" maybe?)

Cockney Rebels live album is one of the very good ones where you can hear the hall in the recording, thus giving you the full gig atmosphere.
I really don`t like albums that were recorded live and re-mixed as if they were a studio album anyway. David Bowies` "Stage" is an example of this.
