Own band site with major label features? 17 Years, 2 Months ago
Just clicked on this ad, looks to good to be true:

http://www.thediymethod.com/ (click on the long orangey ad' in the right-hand column)

I've clicked on two of the featured bands on the main page and both have proper sites, I.e. Not a mini site. Is this what they're giving away for free? And you can sell stuff without giving them a cut? All sounds too good to be true doesn't it?

It's free for 30 days then $14.95 or $19.95 per month which isn't what I'd call a bargain.

Pricing and what you get

Sorry Den but this webhosting company is talking a load of bollocks. Every webhost can provide 'major label' functions. Also their terms and conditions are way to restrictive to be of any real use for serious musicians and artists.

As I said in my previous post, looks like everyone and their Gran seems to be jumping on the "lets exploit the music industry" wagon at the moment...

The only reasonable solution is to set up your own website with details/photos of the acts and direct links to itunes so that fans can preview/buy the downloads. No need to pay unreasonable monthly rates.

Gig dates and other usual suspects go on the acts' myspace sites.

This will not cure all the sins of the digital universe, but I cannot see any other way forward as we go to press.

Their pricing is not unreasonable. In fact it is quite good. it is just all the other bits that come with it that makes it completely pointless. Nowadays there is no need to host your own music files. Youtube could do that and furthermore you link directly to iTunes for higher quality.
