When stars of this calibre get on board - you just know the game is over !

RIP record shops

Well like i have said many a time before. Music wants to be free and there is no stopping it. Now one has to find a way to make money from it. Record shops wont' die completely but they have to increase the quality of product and increase the prices. It is ludicrous that a download can cost similar to a physical CD or DVD. Maybe sell one copy of an album for a million. The original master maybe ? Sir Paul can do this surely.

Yeah but it's becoming apparant that there's only money in music if you're already huge and I can't see anyone getting "big" anymore without the marketing push that won't pay off, catch 22.

And indeed Alighty, it`s clear without a big artist behind it, that album would have been a total loss.
Imagine if it was a last attempt at promoting a new signing?
The debts would last a lifetime and the band would never be touched again by any investor.
Is there a Catch 22.5?

sorry but that's rubbish! If you're a good live draw you will earn enough. Look at the Arctic Monkeys or Winehouse as two recent examples. Writing songs and playing gigs are the two money spinners - both things that require talent not marketing pushes.

I couldn`t agree more with the ethic of being a good live draw to earn enough, what I was trying to point out is the album as a piece of work is a loss leader.
