TOPIC: Genesis on BBC Breakfast
#30556
Genesis on BBC Breakfast 17 Years ago
Am I the only person wondering why presenters only talk to Phil whilst Tony and Mike are sitting there like lemons?
Apart from it being bad manners...
I'd like someone to ask Mike about his absolutely excellent solo work - several great classic hits with Mike and the Mechanics.

I recall Mike saying that it would be frightening as a musician if the only people he ever worked with were Genesis, weigh that into , during the 80`s, Phil`s solo work and Genesis`s hit songs rather merged into one, which I don`t think was the idea.
But still, the band always needed a frontman, as is illustrated by the way in which people refer to "Gabriels Genesis", still.
But when listening to the older tracks, it was all about Tony Banks for me, musically.
Such an important keyboard player, arguably, he created a whole genre for himself which became the influence to a lot of music.
But , agreed, maybe somebody should ask him about it or he had just as well send a lookalike to TV interviews.

Am I also right in thinking that Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford are the only original founding members. Phil Collins joined later on and then left for a while (replaced by the Stilskin lead singer) and then returned in 2007.

Haven't seen the interview but I really enjoyed Mike and the Mechanics material, especially 'Over my Shoulder', 'The Living Years' and 'All I need is miracle'.

Beyond 1990, I never liked any of Phil Collins material and it got very predictable.

At the Earth Concert, they interviewed Genesis, but more or less spoke to Phil Collins.
