A session musician note........... 17 Years ago
........today I have had a rush job to fix a job.
I have campaigned over the years to keep session players fees as high as possible.
Today I rang the people I wanted for the job and it simply did not fit in with the budget which I have been given.
A few calls later, and other people involved and I am told "we would not dream of charging you, I`m sure it will be fun".
Now, I`m not one who would abuse this as a service and indeed they will be paid, but how few people these days seem to realise that they have to speculate to accumulate.

Just remember Mart, as a fixer 15% of nothing is still nothing

Speculation does not bay bills

Unfortunately recording work fees have gone down a hell of a lot these days. Not unusual for a standard fee to be

Totally agree and there are many times the 15% does not exist, you grab what you can.

I still ensure, with all the musicians I employ, that i get decent fees for them and that the agents commission does exist. If people want free or cheap musicians
there are plenty of rehearsal rooms they can trawl round.

I think it is the duty of the fixer to not get drawn to heavily into discounting the worth of the individuals he represents. Of course a happy medium must be reached as we all need the work, just don't let them take the piss, as they will given half a chance !
