Woolworths are dropping the CD single. 17 Years ago
I'm sure many other stores will follow suit. Woolworths say the customers are not buying physical singles because downloads are more popular. BUT they will still stock the occasional special such as the X Factor winner, because that usually does sell well.

Will there be such a thing as a 'single' soon? With download sites we can choose which tracks we buy, so any track off an album can be our chosen 'single'. We live in an age of pick'n'mix music tracks.

The single of yesteryear is over. Physical is over. Just a "lead" song for the rest of the catalogue available for download. Something catchy for radio promo...

I seem to recall that the "Groundbreaking Woolies" were the first place to start only stocking chart top 30 cd singles in 1995.
Either way, this is sadly important again.
In a world which used to have either an indie record shop , or a Woolies in an outlying area of the UK, to buy music, we know it`s a death, but it`s a painfully slow one.
Save the planet(!), unfortunately job changes are going to happen, but let`s just get it over with for heavens sake (I think

This is progress and we shouldn't bemoan the death of the physical disc. Instead we should embrace the future which is streaming as downloads will soon follow the physical into history.

With instant streaming technology and interactive solution on tap who would need to buy a download ? Furthermore with the ability to burn CDs that look every bit as good as a pressed CD for 1/10th of the price why buy a CD ?

We have been spoiled in the music industry, because TV has always been about the intangible dissemination of content to the "idiot box". Didn't stop stars from being created or millions made by producers/actors etc.

Think for one moment a We7 style "ads with it" solution streamed direct to your hi fi/iPod/Mobile phone. I remember reading this in the 80s from some seer who said in the future entertainment will be delivered direct to the home with no need for libraries of records.

Come to think of it when we die we will end up as spirits in a permanent dream-like state where there will be no physical world so in one way we are returning home. Lol.

A couple of people in radio I plug to, are always please to see me and put the cd tracks they like into their computer for airplay, from me, and then give them me back.
The last thing they want is a physical library.
