TOPIC: Pick of the Pops 1973
#31384
Pick of the Pops 1973 17 Years ago
and Rubber Bullets by 10cc shot to No2 from No5 on its way to No1.
Reminded me of going up to Stockport to hear the album they had written and recorded in 2 weeks at my request after I broke Donna for them and gave them their name.

My eyes came out on stalks and my ears almost burst as track after brilliant track came through the Strawberry speakers.

UK Records was the biggest label in pop mid 70s.

Then I thought back to a decade earlier when I was one of the biggest new pop stars in the world (Radio London chart with me beating the Beatles to No1 going up into Photos shortly).

And a decade later came on, 1986 - with Entertainment USA getting 9.7 million viewers a week - on BBC2! - and No Limits at No1 on that channel. And Dale played the hits of that year... Genesis Invisible Touch, Peter Gabriel Sledgehammer - and mentioned The Brits 87 which I wrote and hosted and presented.

And I thought of the mid 90s when I took over the UK Eurovision contest and we won with Katrina and the Waves...

And the mid Noughties with Vile Pervert The Musical clocking up 20,000 full length online views in just over a month...

Quite a life I've had - and it's not finished yet (please).

That 1965 chart is now up on the last page of Photos - check it out; some fascinating other huge hits around that week in August.
