Interesting discussion on Radio 4 about LPs. 16 Years, 12 Months ago
Today is the 60th anniversary of the LP. Radio 4 featured Bob Harris talking about how the vinyl LP has begun to make a come back, and how several firms are once again manufacturing decks. He said it's partly thanks to the club DJs and scratchers, but also that vinyl has become a kind of niche.
There was a lot more to the discussion, and it was all very interesting.
I like vinyl, so it's good to see it's still finding a reasonable market.

It pained me to buy the new Coldplay on cd but I could not wait for a vinyl copy. Besides which, the cd was 7 quid and the vinyl is 13 quid.
I think the key thing that people like about vinyl is it`s size and the cardboard sleeves. Hence why, I am not that worried about the Coldplay cd as it has a nice cardboard sleeve.
For vinyl playing, I have 4 decks and my favourite 2 are made by a company called Pro-ject. These run through a Pro-ject 11 phono box USB, which boosts the signal and enables the vinyl easily to be saved as a WAV file on the computer, thereby creating me a cd for the car and a playable PC copy in Windows media player. Oddly enough, Gracenote picks up the info which I type in and usually supplies me with a sleeve for the computer and MP3 player.
I suppose the most ironic thing about being a vinyl lover is that I can`t count how many cd playing units I have been through whilst still retaining my record collection which I can now convert to digital format at will.
CD V Vinyl?
Hmm.
Why would you really want a small thing with bits in when you can have a large thing with big bits in?
Ask anyone, nobody sees the cd as a desire item.

The joke is still on the industry to me as a person who lives in a slightly outlying area with an independent record store.
After all these years, I still pick up a huge amount of cheap 7" vinyl singles, left by sales reps and covert them.
