Following on from a comment further down the board about the apparent lack of anyone promoting American music on radio in the UK, thought I'd mention Colbie Caillat who has had some decent success in the US recently (a platinum album "Coco" and a couple of top #20 singles):

She's with Universal Republic.
Why isn't this selling in the UK? You'd hope Radio 2 would lap it up. She's had some success in Europe with Bubbly so you'd thought it would translate (apologies to anyone involved if you've tried hard and failed).
Even with the talk of gloom and doom about the economy I think there's loads of potential still to target among the record buying public.

Her father produced one of the biggest albums of all time. I sincerely doubt she was as "Independent" as they want to make her out to be before she was signed to a broader deal.
It sounds like American television soundtrack music ala One-Tree-Hill, Dawson's Creek etc. that I can't differentiate from the other dozen or so pretty female American singer songwriters I'm aware of that do the same thing. I'd be interested to know what kind of live draw she has.
That demographic you mention is looking for the great voice for their generation indeed. A Neil Diamond or new Celine, and I honestly don't know if the mellow singer songwriter type is going to do that. Some could argue Dido did to some degree, but she had that "It" more than this girls music.
