Weekend Thread - Glastonbury 17 Years, 1 Month ago
All comments reviews and observations, whether from attendees or viewers, would be appreciated, both on the overall event, coverage and individual performances.

I have a correspondent there, I shall endeavour to get him to write, he normally is quite chatty.
On my radio show a couple of years back, I had a live phone in correspondent.
My fave report was, "Yeah are we live? I`m stuck in bleedin traffic and covered in mud man!"
(this is partly why I never go!)

Yes I went to Glastonbury (and Donington and Reading) every year until those consecutive mud years.

On the third, I eventually reached my reserved backstage parking spot, stepped out of the Rolls, went up to my ankles it mud, sat quietly back on my seat (feet still outside the door), removed my ruined trainers and soggy brown socks, dried my feet on a towel, wrapped the shoes and socks in the towel, put them in a plastic bag, returned my now dry and clean feet to the car, closed the door, reversed the Roller and drove straight back to town, never to return to Eavisland again.

It is a lovely little town though any time of the year. The dressing code of some of the lovely people that dwell there is no disappointment any time of year if you are a tourist.
We were served the biggest bowl of nachos ever by a lady in a kaftan served to a wooden bench and table, whilst listening to Daniel Lanois.

I have yet to "find God or inner peace" there though!
My main problem with festivals, ironically , is claustrophobia.
I don`t mind the weather that much, I hate being hemmed in though in a crowd.

Don't know about Jazzy Jeff but The Fresh Prince would bring in the crowds.

Talking of which I cannot drive past a HANCOCK poster without thinking of The Blood Donor.

"That's a whole arm!!!".

How amusing, we ask for a thread from people that are going and start a thread from people that really do not want to go!

On the whole, apart from the pay to play debates currently, I must say the live scene currently is excellent.
I witnessed a whole audience sing all the words to one of my acts last night, remarkable it indeed is, but how sad it is that the sales are just not high enough really.
Every time one of the tunes from their Myspace was played, the crowd greeted it like a single they have cherished for years.

I love this but kinda go awwwwwwwwwwwww, as well.

This is my favourite messageboard comment of all time and sums up why I don't go to festivals (lol)

Minus the Rolls though......

Not a bad first day with Pete Doherty on fine form doing Beg Steal or Borrow and clearly loving being the centre of attraction for the right reasons.

Well JK last night was marvellous - Amy on great form; Jay-Z a triumph.
Without wanting to be ageist I'm afraid the lack of posts on this thread shows that the younger music fans - I'm 31 - have less interest in the old scene and more in the new one.
But whilst we can respect the Cohens we can also enjoy the 50 Cents.
And we are too busy enjoying the sounds to bother posting about mud.
No disrespect but that's the way it is in 2008.

Good for Andrew Marr who attended the event in person.

I like the guy as a social commentator and presenter. But he's gone up in my estimation going to Worthy Farm at his age.

His age? He's younger than me (sadly, these days, most are).

I watched Amy Winehouse with morbid fascination and I suspect this is how the vast majority feel about her. Does this count as talent and entertainment or is it time that Amy fans took a reality check?

And for the record, my opinion of Duffy is that she is a higher pitched A Winehouse. If you don't know the songs, don't expect to understand them.

They both make a noise rather than sing.

Well, I personally thought Amy looked a bit like a walking car crash.

On top form? I'm sorry Billy, but you must have been watching a different show.

Yes, there were one or two moments of brilliance, but the overall impression was one a young lady with a very big drug and/or alcohol abuse problem.

'Her People' should really try to help her.

And as for Jay-Z...? Very poor... He simply doesn't have the talent to warrant a headline slot on the Pyramid Stage.

Just seen footage of Amy.

She is not fit to work, the people in charge of her should be ashamed.
It`s heartbreaking and a disgrace on the industry to "make"(?) or "let" her perform.

I only hope that the guy that she lost it with in the front row, live, this week, is the guy in charge.

This lady will be fine, but not if she thrown to the hounds at every tea break.

You really must have no ears if you think Amy was on great form, Billy. She's useless and always has been live. Duffy...a more braying version of Amy. Both of them are dire.

Well I have to say the consensus of posts and e-mails from people who actually attended was that this was one of the best Glastos ever.
