are implementing an interesting "partnership programme as far as raising finance for an album. Fans can register and invest $100 into his album. I think the idea is excellent though I think fitting 1000 names on the CD sorts of loses its charm. What do you guys think ?

By the way over 300 people have signed up raising over $30,000. Is this the way orward ?

I think that is a great idea, but not the way forward.
Somebody has to be at the helm and 300+ people claiming executive producership is too many.
In the co-operative that I have set up, one person gets the final say.(no idea who that is ! )

Creative input, I require and people backing up their work with their time, they even get stints on the phone here for which they are not paid.
It` a common goal, I don`t like the invisable internet people financing a project idea, nice though money is.

Is this the way forward ?

No.

There is no new model. There are lots of different models - and most of them are rather old:

- Giving away content to sell other stuff.
- All forms of subscriptions.
- Pre orders.
- Fan clubs.

I think it's something you can do once.

The "buy a football club" website (Brought up by you IRC DJKZ ), which I think is a similar thing...

They raised enough to buy into my local team strangely enough. For the first time ever they got to Wembley - something to do with the FA Cup and lower division teams.

So for a first year result it's been brilliant. (I was very surprised the football website thing got anywhere at all. I'm pleased they do so well)

Are there any others? I don't know if there is a rival "buy a club" website. If there isn't them it suggests the original moped up all of those who would do it which wouldn't surprise me.

The idea strikes me as a novelty and don't think it will be repeated or endure.... but then again I didn't give the footie website a hope in hell

Hang on Mart, there aren't 300 executive producers on this project as far as I can see. The artist and his producer are the ones running the show and their "fans" who invest the money in the act are just doing that "investing". DJ yes if we want to dissect it all you are absolutely right, there is no "new model" but the icon "new model" is to signify the movement whereby signing with a record label or releasing records in the traditional manner is not being explored but good point.
