"Pinups" is still one of my favourite Bowie albums, interesting as it consists of covers - songs he particularly liked.

The thing that I liked about "Pin Ups" best was how inform the band were at the time.
Ooh! And also the very cheaky background vocal that Bowie incredibly for the time got away with on "Friday On My Mind".
Ah! I can hear you all going which one? Have a relisten, it is very amusing and probably caused much mirth on the day.

This is especially impressive because Bowie had sacked the "Spiders" just weeks before at Earls Court: "This is the last gig we'll ever do..."

My favourite songs on Pin-Ups were (and still are) "Sorrow" & "Friday On My Mind".

Did he not sack them at the Hammersmith Odeon?

As a fan at the time I was gutted and simply did not understand "Young Americans" on it`s release. I tried to like it and didn`t.
I love that album now.

I also hated the way he sang the "David Live" album at the time, but as for "Diamond Dogs", that was and is still incredible.

The career just seemed rather vague for a bit.

You are right Mart, it was at the Hammersmith Odeon.

It must have been very difficult for Bowie around that time, as he always has come across as very much a band person, but not managed seemingly or encouraged as one.
His line ups, on the whole seem to have stuck together, including obviously the latest one which is pretty stable and maybe versatile enough for his ideas.

That said, any musician working with the same muso`s will go stale in songwriting.

I wonder if he started again, under his own control whether he would call himself "the Chameleon" and remain a faceless enigma?
