Press Gazette dies - fascinating 16 Years, 10 Months ago
It should have made millions from the annual awards - we would have done if we'd ran it, as we made a ton from the Record of the Year Show and the music industry Triumphs that was part of it.
But my secret was... get high profile main terrestrial TV ratings, massive viewing figures, tie it in with an industry do during the gap between the sections and you have something that includes great exposure for music (it boosted sales incredibly before Christmas) and therefore made attendance essential at the expensive (but well provided in drink and gourmet food) tables.
The Press Gazette could have done the same but didn't.
Music Week must surely collapse soon too.
Other fringe publications like Hitsheet and ROTD, which were based on the Tipsheet, also have the basics in place but no imagination whatsoever and are destined to die similar deaths.

The re-introduction of "vibe" and "atmosphere" is vital.
I , for one, refuse to listen to lawyer run music and it will not take long for the public to understand this.
It has all got too corporate to be fun. Back in 80`s, I was told by a very prominent manager, that I would "carry on being a cult and continue to make no money " for life.
Wrong!!!
"Cults" in music attract the public to want to be involved, glossy produce is boring people, finally.

"For God's sake, doesn't anybody understand? "
No !
you are correct and thank God for the internet. It's changing everything so dramatically and so quickly and many will be left behind and they could be the biggest or most established organisations.
It amazes me that a publication-or indeed hundreds of publications do not do on-line editions-as opposed to just websites for their publications.
I subscribe to 6 on-line publications that open up exactly as the newspaper or magazine would-it's cheaper and more convenient.
Watching the Olympics today got me thinking back to the 2000 Sydney Olympics which I attended with a newspaper friend and I re-call- the most amazing thing that was then happening for the first time-Canon cameras had supplied 6 photographers with digital cameras (no-one had seen them before)-they cost $50,000 each and we didn't quite believe them when they said they could download the pictures and send them back to their editors via the net immediately.
These are the same cameras ( or actually not as good as) that today cost $1K. So in 8 years an entire revolution has happened in image making.
This is also why I believe large organisations will eventually try to control the net.
