FAB Chart - to boldly go where others fail to Glitter 16 Years, 9 Months ago
The main talking point for this week's chart will no doubt be the inclusion of Gary Glitter at Number 20. Will any other charts dare to acknowledge an interest in his music? Well .. the Fab Chart does say "Putting music first", and it looks as though they are living up to that. 'Through the Years' is a good song.

I also wonder if the people who object to his inclusion will click the link to listen to the song - out of curiosity? It will be their choice alone.

Other new entries include Jackson Cook at 3 with a song about hurricane Katrina. Well crafted and delivered.

Jillian Goldin at 12. Wow! This has a real good atmosphere. Hauntingly beautiful.

Holes and Hearts are a teen duo with a kind of metal ballad called 'Are we done yet?'. I like it, and I think Kurt Cobain would have too.

King Lover 1t 17. No, not a lover of JK (I think). I found this a bit like one of the more weird auditions at the X Factor. His voice goes all over the place, but it shows an amazing range. It takes some getting used to but there is a touch of quality in there among the chaos.

2nd week at Number One for Carlos Bertonatti.
Indian Summer drops to 4.
Detox Cute climb to 6.

Some very good sounds.

I was a bit surprised to see Gary Glitter in the chart, but have no objection to it at all. I didn't think I'd ever be in the same Top 20 as him, having grown up with his music.

Good to be in the Top5.

Jackson's Katrina song is very relevant to current events. I guess that's partly why it's up there at No.3

Once again i have to ask, why bother? You say you are not part of this set up yet every week, without fail you bring us news on songs no one cares about from artists no one has heard of, or wants to hear of again.

It is, without fail, Shite.

This web-site has had 14500 views in its lifetime. Are they all you?

Through The Years is a great song, no matter who it is by.
It's a shame that most people can't separate the music
from the artist's personal life...i suppose it is hard for some people granted.

Good to see it enter.

It is music !! and it is a good song and should not be censored.

It would be like saying dont allow NEW LABOUR to stand for elections because TONY BLAIR lied about WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION in order to kill ONE MILLION innocent women and children......I know what GLITTER did is very bad but comparing it to what BLAIR has done puts it into perspective for me.

Our media brainwashes us into thinking that the IRAQ people are not humans and are just body bags - but to every family who has lost people what BLAIR and BUSH did was awful.

This is in NO WAY a defence of what GLITTER did - because he should not have looked at indecent images. But that criminal act has caused far less pain and suffering than the acts of TONY BLAIR and BUSH and their cronies.

They are seeking to use the MEDIA to VILLIFY the Islamic Religion and Paedophiles and to make out that these people are more evil than they are - well those of us who have any brain cells left see what is happening.

More people around the World are awakening to the evil that our Governments are doing in our name - and they use the media to brainwash us into thinking that WAR is GOOD and KILLING is ESSENTIAL to PROTECT us !! Which is a crazy argument. How did killing a MILLION IRAQUIS make us safer ? I dont believe IRAQUIS ever threatened us here in the UK ? So why did we have to bomb and kill so many of them........

Our minds are totally manipulated by the media to such an extent it is really hard for any of us to be genuinely free thinking any more. That is why KIDS strike out with knives because they have lost the way of expressing anger or disagreeement because the media has painted it in such black and white terms.

Hence we have pages on the SUN website urging people to kill paedophiles..........because they cant see any other way to sort this problem out.....their hate is being fanned by the media intentionally to undermine society.

David Icke calls this type of GOVERNMENT "Problem - Reaction - Solution" and you can watch videos on the YOU TUBE channels about this.

Good to see GLITTER song in the CHART - songs are not evil unless they tell people to do evil things - so he totally justifies his place in a chart.

I seem to recally you emerged once before to post some unfriendly comment. I have to ask, why bother? If you find the Fab chart so crap, just ignore it and go do something you enjoy. Some of us appreciate this method of finding out about about new songs and artists. Any enthusiam for music is cool and should be encouraged.

I recall that a couple of weeks ago, maybe due to holiday, Cat didn't bring us any Fab news, so he doesn't do it entirely without fail. But thanks Cat for keeping us up to date. Don't give up just because some moaning old sod doesn't see the point.

Wow BR! Only you could fit Bush, Blair, the War in Iraq, Islam, David Icke and knife crime into a post about a music chart.

Glitter's tunes have stood the test of time. I would rather hear someone else sing them.

+1

If you don't like it there is no compulsion to read the thread - they're always obviously about the FAB chart and pretty easy to avoid.

@Cat - Thank you

I like the fab chart, not all of the music but I find it nostalgic and new at the same time.

I appear to have been censored. So much for free speech and egalitarianism.

Of course you miss my point. The Fab chart is no more relevant to the music industry that this board represents than the 'recent favourites' on my I-pod.

I ask again, why do you feel the compunction to post this drivel week in week out?

declare your interest.

Re:FAB Chart - to boldly go where others fail to Glitter 16 Years, 9 Months ago
My interest is that I find it interesting.

As followers on this forum know, initially both I and Zooloo used to post updates on the FAB Chart - which is 2 years old not 5. As we both tended to clash it ended up with just me doing the updates. I can't quite recall how that came about, but such is where we find ourselves today.

All music is relevant to the music industry. An I-pod helps people to hear music they like. The FAB Chart helps people discover new music. It only takes one person to hear a song and like it and pass it on to another who then passes it on to several others - music "sharing". I've certainly done that. I've even bought CDs by some of these irrelevant artists.

I enthuse about the FAB Chart because it is different and it showcases new talent. Maybe only approx 14500 people have visited the website, but - as I said before - people pass things on. Word gets around.

It's all fairly straight forward - for those who don't want to intentially complicate things.

Certainly, if JK wants me to stop doing FAB Chart updates on his site, I will. Nobody is obliged to read my posts or to visit that website.

The majority of visitors to this site like to read your update - please do not stop. The Fabchart does not pretend to be official but it is fun and brings new talent to our attention.

IRC you'd posted the FAB chart first which is where I heard about it and for a time we did both post about it.

Initially you weren't as prompt as you are now that you got into the swing of it and in the "gap" I posted but after a couple of weeks worth we began to clash and I felt my post was the secondary one and redundant, so I stopped (I think at the time I stated this)

I posted and visit because it's an interesting and amusing chart. It has always provided an interesting diversion. Nobody has every claimed it is wildly significant. It's simply always given a wide mix of songs, some new some pleasant reminders (Some not so pleasant too )

If anybody finds it drivel and/or pointless the clue is in the tread title - it's the "FAB chart" bit that kind of gives it away. If you don't like it don't read it. It's not rocket science.

Why anyone would take against this I don not know.

If Cat has an "interest" in posting the chart so what. He hardly gains from it and even if he did this is the Tipsheet and tips, personal or otherwise, are welcomed.

I appreciate the time Cat gives to summarise the chart and will look forward to Cat's post on next weeks chart... and the next... and the next...

In the immortal words of Richard Dawkins - if you don't like it you can fuck off.

All enthusiasm for music is appreciated here Cat, whether it is the FAB chart or peoples' own efforts.

The Tipsheet is and always has been about love of music and never about hate.
