Re:Was it really 17 years ago I produced the Brits? 16 Years, 8 Months ago
What is interesting looking back at that collection of songs, was that `91 really was the year of Raves and everybody seemed to start recording songs at the same tempo as a result. The actual session drummers probably had a very bad year, and yet the dang Bryan Adams tune, which I have always hated sat on top of pile for nearly three months and to his credit and the song itself, did not fit the vibe at the time which was being pretty force fed to the public in the end.
The most notable thing for me in that year was, against all odds, my mate Adamski had a hit. Brilliant marketing for the album too, a live performance from a Rave , I believe, which I think they had put out quite cheaply too and people bought it to stay with the vibe as it were.
Us rock guys had a rough year, the NME wrote about, quite literally my own band, "Are we not all fed up with seeing nice guys in jeans?"
Oddly enough, the material that we did at that time still sells on ITunes, the `91 date stamped stuff made it`s money then, but I would hazard a guess that the only one that stills sells digitally out of the 10 songs I just viewed is Bryan Adams, who completely ignored what was going on around him and just sang THAT song in his own way.

Sorry JK, I have to disagree with you about '91 - I remember it as a great and vital year with brilliant and groundbreaking records and gigs from Nirvana, My Bloody Valentine, Massive Attack, Primal Scream, the KLF and PJ Harvey amongst many, many others. And I was a huge rave/dance fan as well.
I still don't get how Bryan Adams could stay on top for so long, though - I wasn't a fan of the record but equally can understand why people would buy it but 16 weeks? Was the competition really that bad or were sales just down generally?
