Partridge Family 16 Years, 8 Months ago
When I was young I was a big fan of the Partridge Family, especially David Cassidy. Now I hear that CBS are commissioning a new series with a modern take. I'm not sure I like this idea. The Partridge Family was part of my childhood and belongs to the 1970s. The trend of resurrecting old shows almost always leads to failure. Far better to come up with fresh ideas.

Maybe if they made a Nest Generation type show, with the kids of one of the original family - like with the resurrected Bonanza - then it may have a slight chance.

Anyone else here got any views on this?

Sounds like a crap idea to me. "The Partridge Family" belongs to the era in which it was made. Apparently they're also planning to bring back "The Banana Splits" which is even more pointless!

Take comfort in the fact that in 1986, the company who were behind "The Monkees" spewed out "The New Monkees". Anybody remember it? Did anybody see it? I bet not... an attempt to update The Monkees formula with new guys and set in the 80s, it was a complete commercial disaster and axed swiftly. The handful of people I know who did get to see it said it was dreadful.

So, I can't honestly see why or how a return of "The Partridge Family" would work today. Whoever is behind this idea must be very foolish... certainly devoid of fresh ideas. Unless they cast a really big name in it, I'm confident it will sink without trace.

I only liked David Cassidy when he went solo and liked the little ginger haired kids work on Babylon 5, the rest can stay down after "Dawn" and stay there for all I care.

The little ginger haired kid who later appeared in Babylon 5 was out of Lost In space.

Indeed they did! All we ever saw of it here in the UK was a self titled soundtrack album on Warner Brothers. From memory, the cover looked terrifying with 4 very 80's (crap haircuts etc) looking young guys trying to look "wacky". Did see it around in some stores but never had the nerve to check it out. The TV show was not picked up in the UK.

Thinking back, I seem to recall it did have some involvement from one Christian Nesmith, so there was a link to The Monkees. It is unfortunate that at the same time Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones and Peter Tork reunited as The Monkees and put out a diabolical album called "Pool It!" Whilst The New Monkees is virtually forgotten, "Pool It!" amazingly remains on catalogue, a permanent and embarrassing reminder of how low The Monkees sank, drowning in the 80s production cliches of the day.

The crucial point here is - great entertainment is original.
It's the lazy (and uncreative) way out to copy, emulate, revive...

I've been asked to partake in Celebrity Wife Swap. Apart from the obvious flaws here, I'd never take part in something which simply continues past formats.

Ditto I'm A Celebrity. But I might well have agreed to be in the first one.

Just like I was the original Mr Nasty (in Music Echo and Disc and on shows like Juke Box Jury).
But that's why I refused to be Mr Nasty in the first series of Pop Stars.
I'd been there... done that... and left it, with great goodwill, to Nigel and Simon to follow my lead, just as Tony Hatch had done years ago.

Bill Mumy was his name. I wonder what became of him after Babylon 5.
