Will Wyatt, one of the very best BBC managing directors stopped just short of call for Ross and Brand to be sacked without compensation this morning, but there is a widespread feeling abroad in the higher echelons of the BBC that these two idiots be got rid off. They share one abiding fault -that they think they are in some way superior and indeed cleverer than their fellow common man. They exist in some fame induced self deluding world of their own making where 'little' people don't matter. Well enough is enough. Be gone the pair of you and trouble us no mare with such puerile stuff.

Don't agree at all Walter, though I love Will (who was a huge Ent USA fan and wrote me a lovely letter).

The BBC should stand up for its staff.

This was a silly tasteless joke in a minority appeal evening show which got 2 complaints from its audience.

The disgraceful behaviour was by the Mail. Like repeating a racist pub joke, they have offended millions by publishing this. They are to blame, not Russell or Jonathan.

IT'S A GOOD STORY is the only motive these days.

Not one Mail employee cares whether Andrew Sachs was offended.

You appear quite biased against the Mail group of papers-perhaps a legacy of maltreatment against yourself along the way and I understand should that be the case, but allow ordinary decent people the chance to be heard on something distasteful as this.
The content of such vile, indeed unnatural behaviour, is easily aped by the more gullible followers of these two idiots, and would end in custodial sentences for ordinary members of the public.Quite rightly so , most would say. So what's so special about Ross and Brand?

We sometimes do need to make examples of obscenely highly paid indivuals crossing the boundaries of decent behaviour. And as the BBC being seen to stand by them , the average license payer might not be so understanding. In fact , they might look for the BBC to give a lead in decrying such behaviour in the name of the licence payer,
Your stance in defence of 'free speech' and cutting edge material should not embrace these two , JK .

John Whittingdale sums up what a lot of people are thinking.

It raises far more serious questions about the controls in place to stop this kind of thing happening and the BBC needs to look at that to ensure it can't occur," John Whittingdale, chairman of the Culture Media and Sport Select Committee, said.

"This was a programme that was pre-recorded and was listened to and we're told that editorial staff had decided that it was suitable for broadcast.

"That does seem to be utterly extraordinary - I cannot see how the controls could've broken down so badly and this is something the BBC needs to look into.

"The BBC needs to think about whether they want to go on spending this amount of money on individuals who are repeatedly found to be in breach of what are universally held as the acceptable standards of broadcasting," he added.

Although I see your point about The Mail, JK, nobody could have repeated the remarks if Brand and Ross had not said them. Like schoolboys they have apologised, but I doubt that they have learned any lessons. I also doubt that any real action will be taken against them.

I vote with my remote. They go off in my house.

I think it's a win, win win situation.
Sachs has got a good sense of humour and honestly doesn't care at all.
His grand daughter will be delighted by the publicity and cannot be that sensitive if she's in Satan's Sluts.
The BBC get ratings increases.
The Mail gets circulation increases.
"Offended listener" (who never heard it) gets something to complain about.
Russell and Jonathan get front pages.
Ofcom gets a nice long job nobody will care about in a week.
Champers all around and the big winner is - the government.

Knocks the economy off the news!

Meet Tim Davie , the man who is likely to carry the can on this;

As the number of complaints to the BBC reached 4,500 this morning, the corporation said that the director of music and audio, Tim Davie, would compile an "urgent review" into the matter for the director general, Mark Thompson, which would be passed on to the BBC Trust.

Juvenile though the humour in the incident was, the reaction from everybody has universally deserved one response...
