X Factor Laura 'controversy' 16 Years, 7 Months ago
I did not intend to comment on anything to do with this farce of a programme but as the media is full of it and it has even reached the House of Commons (apparently) here I go.

When are people going to accept that the programme is nothing to do with having talent but merely a way of promoting 'singers'! If anyone can be bothered to do a search on any of the finalists, you can see that none of them are what they purport to be.

The latest casualty 'Laura' that all the fuss is being made about is a prime example. Apart from being the girlfriend of a TV executive, I read that she has been signed to Kylie Minogue's label and is about to release an album of her own songs and much more. Funny that on the show on Saturday, she said that this was her first break.

If people have nothing better to do, it is more than amazing to see what these people have done and who they know or are related to.

Apart from the unfortunate people who are used in the early stages of the programme for entertainment and poking fun at, this is a cynical exercise in getting these people on tv so that at the very least they can earn thousands instead of hundreds at Butlins etc.

I have known several very good singers (who put these finalists in the shade) who did not even get through the first audition (the first of many by the way) who are not put through. I think the reason for this is that if they put good singers through, these people who they want to promote would be seen for what they are.

I said I would never watch this rubbish again but for some reason (a moment of madness) I did watch it on Saturday and was appalled at the standard of singing as always. I then did the search and was even more appalled at what I found out about them.

In the meantime, innocent people queue up year after year in the hope of making it - the talented ones don't stand a chance. My advice is just carry on singing in the pubs, restaurants etc. and don't waste money on an audition that you don't have a hope of getting through. Attending the audition is expensive (depending on where you live) and you see only strange people being put through to the next one.

OK rant over but someone needs to speak out ....
