I've never gotten into Strictly but because John is so sweet and funny and nice I've grown to enjoy the show (plus there's nothing else on) and I do think the judges are great (Bruno joined me on holiday for some weeks years ago).

So John has brought at least one extra viewer to the series.

AA Gill is absolutely spot-on with his article.

What the X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing offer is ENTERTAINMENT - that's what the networks are after and when one looks at the viewing figures on both series in the 9million plus area they are doing it right.

Neither show is really a talent show - it is just Entertainment, pure and simple.
