TOPIC: Tom Jones

Tom Jones 16 Years, 7 Months ago
Amidst the excitement of Dido being number 1 and Leona roaring up to number 2, the new Tom Jones limps in at 32, despite Record of the Week at Radio 2 and an A Listed single for the last month. EMI ,stop hiring over priced executives to work out another "new" way and spend your money on breaking some records/acts.

And the Tom Jones is SO bad.

Mind you, some (Walter?) may say MY new tracks are crap but at least they do reflect me at 63!

You aren't part of the mainstream music business anymore JK, so your efforts , dreadful to my ears as they are, are self financed and self "promoted". For that at least, you deserve credit and a round of applause.

Not only do they reflect you as you are today, at least they have good tunes and meaningful lyrics. Also you are not trying to be a plastic looking sex God. You have aged gracefully, not resorting to dyeing your hair (it was good to see Jimmy Page ditching the hair dye... will Paul McCartney or Ringo do likewise?), growing a silly beard (which will also be dyed), wear a bad orange tan and resorting to singing any old rubbish to make yourself look "trendy".

A major problem I have with Tom Jones' music is I can never believe a word he sings and I think half the time he hasn't a clue just what he's singing about... nor cares, as long as it sounds "modern" and "appeals" to youngsters. Who is he trying to kid?

Tom Jones is embarrassing. At least you have some dignity and integrity JK!

Leona roaring up to Number 2? When did this happen? On Sundays chart she went down from 5 to 10. Bit early for midweeks isn't it?

I for one like Tom Jones, but maybe it's a girl thing.

Walter, you don't understand the new EMI. They focus less "on sales of individual tracks or the conceptual equivalent of little round shiny disks and more (on) helping artists learn things about their fan group that they can't directly see." (Douglas Merrill)

So just be a little patient and wait until Leoni-Sceti has EMI.com online. Then he will bring "knowledge" to the relationship between Jones and his fans. "That exchange and depth of knowledge is a whole new level, if you want, of value creation that we[EMI]can bring." (Elio Leoni-Sceti)

And EMI wants "to sign the artists that we can build." (Nick Gatfield)

So apart from Tom Jones they just signed Willie Nelson! Who's Next? Maybe Jonathan King!

To misquote the Bard of Hibbing, there is something going on here but you know what it is ,don't you Mr Jones....

Good post and sadly true, methinks.

Denise, the Midweeks are first published at 10am Tuesdays. The Leona Lewis album is at No 2 , and who knows may pip Dido by Sunday.
