TOPIC: Wake up BBC

Wake up BBC 16 Years, 6 Months ago
Now I don't (any longer) work for the BBC but even I have seen and heard enough of the delightful Christine Bleakley to know her surname is pronounced BLAKELY.

But every day I hear a BBC person call her Bleekly.

It's not asking a lot, is it? She is a BBC employee.

Standards are slipping.

is they go to huge efforts to get the pronunciations of overseas names and places correct but can't be bothered with Welsh names and places.

And the really irritating one for me is Davies. It has never and will never be "Davees", it's pronounced exactly the same as Davis.

Standards have been slipping in the BBC for a long time. One announcer even talked about Doctor Woo. That shows been around since 1963, you'd think everyone at the BBC would at least know it's name, even if there was a typo on the autocue.

Then there's the sloppy standards in radio production.

But ITV also have their problems. I do wish they would allow actors to finish sentences before cutting them off for the commercial break.

I don't think any British TV or radio is run with the viewers or listeners in mind now. They seem to have risen above us.
