Worst ad campaign of the year so far and it doesn't do Ringo any favours since everyone answers "Probably yes as long as John Lennon and Paul McCartney had been in the band".

Well said JK. He wasn't even the best drummer in the group according to reports.

However, his son Zak is an excellent drummer.

I agree about the Norwich Union/Aviva ad - just terrible.

My favourite ad at the moment is 'Comparethemeerkat.com' - just brilliant, fantastic humour and you actually remember what is being advertised which is always a plus ! Simples !!

I was about to say that's my favourite - and I think - cleverest ad campaign on TV at the moment too Mickey.

CompareTheMeerkat.com

I wonder if anyone has registered it.

I've seen the Meerkat advert a few times but have to confess I've not noticed what it's actually advertising. I'll have to pay more attention next time. I often take notice of the music used in ads, but hardly ever catch the main message.

Of course. Compare the Market weren't going to miss that trick, were they? You can actually compare some meerkats on the site though, should you so wish.

When assessing Ringo's contribution to The Beatles, as well as taking an overview of his abilities as a drummer, words of John Lennon {while discussing "Strawberry Fields"} should always be taken into account. "This is what I want you to play", he said to Ringo as a tape ran, filling the studio with the sound of an intricate drum pattern. "But John, that's two drummers...", said Ringo. "Don't let that worry you", John replied. John, it is clear, had lots of faith in Ringo's capacity to deliver. He was never the terrible drummer that it's so fashionable to assume he was. The Beatles were made up of four musicians. Not two, not three, and there was never any dead wood.

There was nothing wrong with Ringo's drumming and actually I like George's solo work most of all but John and Paul's contribution to those early songs was phenomenal and any drummer would have been carried along by their extraordinary talent.
