I Like WHITE LIES - I liked Joy Division and I like the early 80s sound. I also like the Editors.

But for those of you who dont live in London there is a far better band than WHITE LIES around doing the 80s thing in a more authentic way.

They basically should be the new Duran Duran.

An 80s band who blend that synth sound but with glorious 21st century dancehall beats - which means when you hear their music you cant help but jump around.

I do suggest you check them out and visit their My Space site and listen to their tracks ( on proper sound system so you can hear the bubbling synths which a PC often does no justice )

The USA will adore this band and I even though every major in London will be trying to entice them - I can see big hitters flying across the pond soon because to be fair there are not many bands out there in the UK who could be Worldwide stars.

White Lies are adequate - the lead singer is an asset - but it sounds very samey and lacks the urgency needed in a recession to cheer us all up.

Minus IQ on the other hand will help us all to dance the night away - but with our cred intact. Now for a band to do that is rare - that is why they are such a special band.

They are at 93 East soon I think and are on tour around the UK - so if they are playing near you why not go along - I promise they are one of the best live acts anyone can see in the UK at the moment - and I see rather alot.......so you wont waste your Tenner or Fiver going along.

The 80s are back - and these two bands lead the way. But my money is on MINUS IQ in the long term.

Minus IQ have definate potential. Their sound is stunning and not samey at all.

I see great things for these North London Boys.

Record of the Day have referred to this thread. Their posters dont seem to like young UK talent for some reason.

Minus IQ are excellent and it is good to see people on The Tipsheet giving them a fair chance.

Whether they wil be as big as White Lies who knows or cares. But they are excellent.

I couldn't agree more, the white lies are about as samey as it comes.
The minus iq lads are just as sweet on the stage as they are off, lovely guys who pack one hell of a performance, love it! x

They pack an amazing punch live. Like all bands they just need one Radio One DJ to start championing them then I am sure they will be massive.

With the current interest in 80s sounding bands I think they are a band who can actually give the Killers a run for their money

Come on UK music industry - get behind these lads.

Saw Minus IQ a while back at the Scala, seriously good live! Wouldn't say they're much like White Lies though, the singer's a lot more charismatic and they're more towards a kind of heavy pet-shop-boys sound.

Really worth checking out!

Launch party sold out and they were immense even doing a cover of the HUMAN LEAGUE' Dont you Want me and a Dizzee Rascal song in the encore !

Yes noticed the Pet Shop Boys connection last night because the gig was heavily mixed. I never saw them at the Scala.

Easily the best band live I have seen this year and their album is selling fast on I tunes etc.

I really hope they get some airplay now for their new single. If they were on a major label it would be A Listed - just shows the power of the "dollar" in playlisting these days.
