Bottom To The Top censorship 16 Years, 4 Months ago
I was listening to From The Bottom To The Top, Gold Radio's retrochart show, last night, with David Jensen and guest Merrill Osmond - they ran down the Top 20 for w/e 25 November 1972 (the Osmonds were at #2 with "Crazy Horses").

An excellent show with plenty of fine and frequently brilliant music but oddly they skipped straight from number eight ("Leader Of The Pack" reissue) to number six ("Crocodile Rock") without a word of explanation. I thought perhaps they'd just accidentally missed it out or got their numbers mixed up but nothing was mentioned. It was baffling when the show's whole point is that it plays the whole chart.

So I went to Chart Stats and looked up the chart to see who was at number seven that week and it was:

"Loop di Love" by Shag.

I mean, even if Dale doesn't play Gary Glitter on his show he at least has the decency to say he was at number such-and-such.

This is just deliberate erasing of history for no good or logical reason and it left a rather sour taste in the mouth.

Thank you for that MC - do let Gold know your feelings though they will probably reply that if they had played it, it might have left a nasty taste in many more people's mouths.

You can then say that's what Dame Edna used to say about lesbianism.

I wouldnt worry JK - with 31,000 views for the movie you probably have many more listeners than Gold Radio!

Pathetic. I suppose the Who are fortunate they didn't have a top 20 record that week.

Yes and the Rolling Stones.

Funny how they still get played as well.......

Ridiculous censorship.

Soon bands will have to take CRB checks in order to be played on UK Radio.

Surely, the word "Bottom" should be censored.

I'm outraged ! You simply cannot erase history or censor it just because people may be offended.

Whatever one thinks of Gary Glitter-as one who went to about 4 of his shows I think he was one of the greatest showmen of his time..never dull-always entertaining.

Interesting JK mentions Dame Edna-I just watched a fascinating program about Barry Humphries and what a genius this man is. I loved the clips of Dame Edna they kept showing..especially her live shows.

She picked on poor woman in the front row and compared her to herself..saying "we are so much alike you and I !-except I'm rich and famous and you aren't" Wicked woman.

It's absolutely pathetic. No, I don't like or endorse what Glitter has done, but it does not alter the fact that he and Mike Leander between them, made some cracking pop records. In fact "Always Yours" popped up on my walkman today - superb record - easily one of the best number ones of 1974... memorable Top Of The Pops performance too.

As for Dame Edna Everage, a true treasure! Always wondered how it would go if JK appeared on her chat show!
