Can Irving Azoff save Rock'n'Roll? 16 Years, 4 Months ago

Apart from the fact that Rock'n'Roll died when Elvis went into the army, the thinking behind the headline - that one man / one company can "save" the music business - shows, that the WSJ doesn't know what it is talking about:

The problem of the music industry is the monopoly power of a few firms.

If there is a solution, it will be de-centralisation, competion between a lot of players (labels, agencys, radio & TV stations, web sites etc).

Live Nation Entertainment stands today at exactly the same point the majors stood in 1999.

Spot on. I think the latest Brit Awards proved this a thousandfold, as did the Grammy's. Between them, they revealed a total ignorance to the fact that the music industry has changed beyond belief in the last ten years and STILL they cling to the same old tired boring ideals.

I just LOATHE corporate puppetry.
