Re:Eurovision - Georgia banned 16 Years, 3 Months ago
I wouldn't take it too seriously, JK. The EBU has always had a bee in its bonnet about the politicization of its beloved event. I'm sure the Georgians were more than aware of this, and have got themselves some nice free publicity.
It is all rather silly though.
PS I have just received my invitation for a Russian visa, bizarrely from the Moscow Department for Physical Education and Sport. The humour of this is lost on anyone who hasn't seen my physique.

Stupid. Totally stupid. It's NOT acceptable for a song to have a mild political dig but it WAS ok one year in the 90's to have all the European political leaders appearing onscreen to wish their country's entry luck. Now that I did take offence to - John Major? On Eurovision? Get me outa here!
What year was that BTW? I have a very vivid memory of it happening because I felt it had no place and dragged the show out but I can't for the life of me recall which year that did happen.

It certainly happened, Elliott, but I cannot remember when either. I would hazard a guess at Riga in 2003.
The UK politician was the culture minister, I seem to remember. I can't say it particularly wound me up, but it was a complete waste of time.
Apologies btw if this post comes out in unnecessarily bold text. My little computer is misbehaving.

I don't recall Ukraine being banned in 2005 for the most blatantly anti government, political song you will ever hear in eurovision
Will Georgia still be allowed to vote ?
Serbia & Montenegro (as it was then) withdrew in 2006 as a Montenegran group won their final and being the intolerant nation they are,the Serbs were not prepared to have it 2 years running. They were still able to vote though and their vote changed the qualification from the semis, putting FYROM through at the expense of Poland.
Don't worry about your physique Anthony. You can always share a nice sauna with Filip Kirkorov.
