TOPIC: Miley Cyrus
#42825
TipTop

Miley Cyrus 16 Years, 2 Months ago
It seems Miley Cyrus (with the help of her father Billy Ray) has finally come up with a track which may break her in the UK (away from her Hannah Montana role).

Her new track 'The Climb' is surprisingly rather good!

See my piece on Metro Station Tip Top... The Climb sounds to me like several hack writers have been listening to Can't Live Without You... possibly Diane Warren?

The new star of Country Pop - and she will sell millions in the USA and will probably sell many thousands in the UK. Isn't DOLLY PARTON her Godmother or something ?

Good luck to her. Good tune.

I haven't heard this cut, however, her 15 minutes are already fading.

She was a phenomenon driven solely by a television show. Unless the UK audience is hit with that show I can't see it happening in the UK the same way.

Its an unsustainable driver for a music act as I've said on this board a thousand times.

A window for this type of push is small and dependent solely on the driver behind it.

Lefsetz just had a blurb on this.

TV is driving most of the chart these days. From X Factor to American Idol to Fame Acadamy to planted artists in their own shows such as S CLUB - Jonas Brothers - Hannah of course - even Kyle ( Richard Fleeshman ) in the BBC drama ALl The Small Things.

The TV is now as important as radio in breaking artists.

I think Miley Cyrus will have a long successful career. The movie is due soon ?

You didn't hear a word I said, BR.

...and moving on...

They're already having a significant problem with her in the States, as most people in the major entertainment industry already know.

and on this note...can Kelly Clarkson sell out a theater?

Entertainment Weekly called Kelly Clarkson a superstar last week.

See in my world a superstar is Celine Dion. Who CAN sell out a 20,000 seat arena 10 nights in a row.

Now that's "Reality"

In 18 months, maybe less, Miley Cyrus will be headlining strawberry festivals with Jessica Simpson.

GG you are spot on about this and I am beginning to think that mainstream TV now is a big no no for a music artist. It is unnecessary in this Youtube era and more to the point the way that it is being done is harming artists. We need to create the mystique again and keep everything in perspective if we are going create tomorrow's big acts. It seems with Miley, Jessica etc that their celebrity has taken over their music and as a result they suffer as artists.

her singles have been crossing over and doing well in the UK irrespective of the TV show which has had a much smaller impact here.

At the moment she's doing good pop and coming across as a believable, hard working young pop star.

More power to her elbow.

Good pop?

Good God!

See, people honestly believing that is why we're in the situation were all facing.

Have you seen the Grammy hack up?

Believable, yes....to my 6 year old niece.

She'll be in Branson in 18 months tops!

I own two of her albums - I like listening to stuff like Taylor Swift and Bethany Dillon when unwinding. Miley Cyrus makes that sort of music. What is wrong with that ? She is alot more credible that the High School Musical stuff.

To be fair I would listen to Miley Cyrus before Lady Ga Ga and ilk any day of the week.

Why do dislike her so much ? Of course she is manufactured - but she has a decent voice and a great band plus some good songs.

Re:Miley Cyrus 16 Years, 2 Months ago
Your missing my point completely. I don't have anything against her.

I come from a music business that no longer exists. I was trained in a record business that no longer exists.

The record business that the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and U2 came from. All of whom would have been dropped by their labels early on in todays business. Great acts need to be nurtured. Using television to break music acts creates unsustainable short term acts.

I'm not commenting on a person enjoying that music or not. I'm glad you enjoy whatever turns you on. I'm commenting that there is no filter, there is no quality. Taylor Swifts SNL showcase was the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen on network television in the States, and I know what I'm talking about. Many many agree.

Who manages her to let that happen? To be totally exposed for what she is, without studio wizardry (which is what you hear when "Unwinding")....Youtube it! Then

NARAS will give 3 minutes to a ne'er-do-well mock up duo like Cyrus-Swift on the Grammy's live broadcast (clearly to attract the Disney audience for ratings) and give literally 15-20 seconds to recognize the Producer Grammy for the people like me that allow them to exist.

It's really as nuts as it gets.

I tell it like it is. Everyone knows this. I'm looking for the next Dusty, not the next Miley.... and its costing me plenty to stick to my guns.

I wouldn't disagree with anything you've posted there GG - indeed I've commented strongly on NARAS's shameful snubbing of some of the multiple nominees this year in favour of gimmicky nonsense like the Cyrus-Swift duet.

I just think that within the context of what Cyrus is - a 16 year old singer with music aimed at teenage girls - she's worked her socks off, tours constantly and produced three singles which sound as if they fit on the radio.

I wasn't proclaiming her or her music as great, just that she's doing a good job of moving from her TV show into mainstream. There's far more deserving targets out there among "serious" musicians.

As for the next Dusty - glad to hear that someone is still looking. I wonder how many have been missed these last 20-30 years since record companies have insisted that every singer has to have written their own material?
