You are right, JK. A few later songs may have succeeded in a limited number of countries (not UK) but certainly nothing approaching a genuine hit since Gina.

One of the Allisons is a naturist now.
We're unlikely to get a europe wide successful winner anymore due to the winning song often coming from diaspora votes. e.g. Diva Banal (Dima Bilan) may have been a huge star in Soviet countries, but the rest of Europe gave him the thumbsdown on the night and despite performing in almost every country since, the interest from non Russians was zero.

dima is a huge star in his own backyard and won
scooch, andy abraham, javine, daz sampson, jemini, james fox, none of them were, are or will be huge and none of them won
could be a conection between sending your best and winning and sending, at best second raters at worse (let's not go there) and being well beaten
one can on;y speculate how robbie williams would fared a few years ago at his height of popularity throughout europe

I thought "rock n roll kids" was one of the best entries. It won for Ireland a few years ago. Simple guitar piano vocal track puts some of the eurobeat entries into shade
Re:One of the best ever Eurovision entries... 16 Years, 3 Months ago
i quite agree "never ever let you go" was a far better song but the lordi contest was an exceptionally strong contest, check out the third from bosnia
when dima won, it was i believe a weak contest, as is this year's

didn't quite do it for me although it was a superb performance from elena
my personal all time favourite eurovision entry was also from greece, 1976, worth checking out

I wasn't born until 78 but I have seen Greece 76 and Mariza Koch is amazing. She stood up and spoke at the recent Greek riots and was quite a prominent figure.
And back to Diva Banal. If he is so fantastic can anyone explain why only juries in Armenia, Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania , Estonia and Israel (45% Russian origin) agree ? Not exactly a representation of the whole of Europe is it ?

We've gone through this again and again Mike and will never agree; but whilst I felt NO entry was any good last year, Dima gave far and away the best performance and I tipped him to win on merit months before the contest.
