A good musical act will withstand the test of time. James Last and his band covered any type of music and his shows were one big party. He was doing in the sixties what Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers were to do with great success twenty years later. Megamixes of favourite songs so you kept everyone happy all night long while they were supping their Party Sevens. The man is a legend. We will not see his like again.

After my last post on this subject i had a rummage through my dvd collection and found a disc i picked up in Asda about a year ago for 50p. James Last at the Albert Hall in 1979. Id not watched it. Its out on Universal/Polydor and features the version of Tiger Feet featured on You Tube. It is a stunning show, a masterclass in how to work an audience with the power of music.

I always think I'm not a fan of James Last until I catch one of his shows on TV and find myself enjoying it. I think it's easier to appreciate his style when you can see the audience having so much fun. I agree they are one big party.

His music is not my cup of tea, but he seems to be a very down to earth kind of guy. He treats his audience / fans with respect, and his musicians have only nice things to say about him.
