Totally static top ten chart 16 Years, 2 Months ago
Well, virtually.
Which means, of course, nothing is doing much and the majors death hold on music remains lethal; no imagination, no enthusiasm, no corporate talent.

The industry has become like one of those airplane death yards; empty doors swinging in the wind.

People, and the media, need to take more notice of the extremely good unsigned acts. Lots out there making terrific music. Why do the majors continue to produce the same mundane rubbish?

There should be some sorts of charts for everyone else.....even if it were only a Monthly listing of what Tipsheeters themselves were enjoying. I know the old Tipsheet had something similar ?

Maybe it is time to revive the tradition with a monthly TIPSHEET TIPS TOP 5s thread. Where everyone can name the Top 5 albums and Top 5 singles ( but with no major labels allowed !! )

The Chart has become a problem for music. Unless you listen to a chart show then most people never hear 90% of what is in the chart. Most people are now not aware of what is in the chart with only the Christmas Number One having any real visibility in the real world.

There is the Fab Chart brought to us weekly by The Cat which is a totally different take on things and actually seems to feature real music. I wouldn't like to see one which bans major label music. It's not all bad, and we should judge music by it's quality rather than by it's status.

I believe that when downloads were introduced it was going to make the charts more varied. Looking at that top ten it has obviously failed and im wondering just how long it will be before allegations of chart fiddling start being thrown around once again. How many sales does it take nowadays to get a number one? And how does a track like Sex On Fire still remain in the top 40 almost six months after its release even going up a place this week. Something doesnt seem right about the whole thing. Could it be that the sales figures for the lower reaches of the chart number just a few hundred downloads per track?

I don't think everyday people even take notice of the top ten anymore, which is a bit sad.. we need a regular chart rundown show again and a music show other than x factor on prime time tv.

Yes, the downloads revolution was intended to change the playing field.

It simply hasn't.

Majors still hype the chart and dominate brain dead programmers (always a stupid breed). And since employees of majors tend to be stupid cowards - worse these days than ever - their selection of priorities get worse and worse.

So radio is unlistenable; kids no longer turn it on but devote themselves to computer screens.

I listen to the DLT show on Magic and it's amazing how many kids get involved in the phone-in competitions and are regular listeners. He does have a better personality than many other presenters and he plays pretty good music too.

Maybe reality music tv shows has ruined the music business. If there are people voting in their hundreds and thousands then putting a record out for the artist is a no brainer. Why would a record company otherwise take the old route of signing an unknown and trying to Market them?
