The young girl was quite good in her audition but very ordinary in her semi final. I had a horrible feeling, for a moment, that she might be put through on cuteness and that Diversity would miss out. I was so pleased (especially for Perry) that the guys got through.
Susan Boyle began a bit wobbly but recovered herself well. That's a harder song to deliver than many think. Her trained smile was a bit of a sign that the experts are beginning to get their hands on her. I fear they might make her too much like everyone else. Part of her appeal is her natural approach, so I hope she manages to maintain that.
But, yeah, the right acts got through on the night.
Second final equally predictable with Flawless way ahead of the pack; I don't actually think Shaun Smith is any good at all but he was the certain judges' choice.
With all the media hype I think it'll take a lot for Susan Boyle to "blow it". I found the wiggle quite amusing, and it was an obvious release of frustration after having been packed into an uncomfortable dress and taught how to wear an unnatural "face". The wiggle (and the voice) was Susan Boyle. The rest was artificial. I thought she'd "blown it" when the first part of her song was well below standard, but then she recovered herself and the public gave her the most votes - ahead of one of the dance acts who I think are the best in the show.
Cat, is Perry the little one with the hair?
btw I saw Lilly Allen's comments about BGT today. She's entitled to her opinion of course, but she really has nothing to shout about re. talent. And if parents of kids who enter competitions don't prepare them for rejection, it's not the fault of the competition organisers.
Talk about over-rated. Tonight's semi was basically full of also rans. Shaheen has power but little else, imho. The MD dancers are no match for diversity. The rest ... ahem. Who puts these acts through?
I thought she recovered quite well. It is a difficult song to sing. Is she being coached already? It looks like it. The dress was awful but the lighting with the star effect around her head was rather effective. it was like saying to the audience that this is the star of the show and the only one to vote for. The kid singers are awful Ive not seen one yet that comes up to the standard of this one on the link below. Britain certainly missed this talented young man.
I remember Tom. A real nice kid with a great attitude but not the best of singers.
Here's a video of Charlie Green from his recent tour of the USA - rejected by last years BGT but having more worldwide success than any of the other contestants.
Watched the Charlie Green link. I don't usually like child singers - I think their talent should be reserved for family, friends and possibly holiday camp capers. I feel they should leave it until they can understand and feel what their songs are about. On this occasion I really liked what I saw. He is good!
