Interesting story from Barry McGuire on BBC4 last night about California Dreaming. The Mamas and Papas were staying with Barry prior to signing a majot contract. He said that they recorded California Dreaming shortly after. He had worked with them on the track, but it was not until many years after when he was playing a CD on his son's Hi-Fi which only had one channel working. It was then that he heard his own voice buried on one of the tracks and realised that they'd used his vocals and he'd never been paid for it. He wasn't making a fuss though. He seemed to find it quite amusing.

Very good edition of Old Grey Whistle Test later in the evening, with Fanny and Elton John live in the studio (at the time).

Barry MaGuire is now a regular on the "God" circuit. I remember Fanny only cos of the outrageous name and that Suzi Quatros sister, Patti, was a member at one time. There is a 4 cd retrospective available on Rhino Records for anyone interested in their work. Must say im tempted to investigate further as they sounded rather good.
