TOPIC: Radio And Records folds
#45607
Radio And Records folds 16 Years ago
Some of you won't know it but it was an early US Tip Sheet, just after the Bill Gavin original.
In it, enthusiastic radio programmers told others about great music they were featuring.
It was an era where individuals ran playlists and quality music was all that counted because it gained listeners and ratings.

Then big business took over as it did in music and the slow decline of an industry began.

much as I admire you, JK- much of what you did was not exactly "quality music"... one for you, one for me; una paloma blanca...

catchy tunes yes, quality music no.

Ah David; what is quality?

well if anyone is looking for quality music from you, they should either look to your 60s stuff or the magnificent songs from Vile Pervert. www.vilepervert.com
forget the 70s songs (in my opinion)

ah...., the Bill Gavin Record Report

do you know, i remember listening to Bill when he ran his radio show @ KNBC.

Im of the opinion that the Bill Gavin Record Report marked the decline of the music industry - rather than ''big business''.

Juke boxes and Dick Clark's American Bandstand were the true grass-roots indicators of what people were consuming music wise.

music is essentially a reflection of regional diversity. once bill gavin began to collate musical tastes, homogeny crept in.

The Tip Sheet was started in an attempt to spread the word about good music.

Very quickly we found that most industry people are no longer interested in good music. Their lives have been taken over by family, career, rent, food, school, clothes... so many more vital aspects of life.

The decline of tips on here reflects that sad truth.

These days there are far more posts (though fewer views) on the Your Views board.

hi my fellow hitters

did you sleep well JK?

you pose a strong defence of tip sheet origins

however im not convinced that....,

'lives have been taken over by family, career, rent, food, school, clothes.....'

these are infact basic needs and functions going back as far as the earliest & greatest civilization of Sumeria

your notion of 'good music' is a romantic one.

we all appreciate romance once in a while and on that score i accept your view
