Having been over to Athens for this year's contest, I was interested in the opinions of the various UK journalists and fans out there.
An overwhelming theory from most, especially the journalists, is that the UK selection is very unprofessional these days, almost clueless. It seems a far cry from the good old days of the late 90s when a certain Mr King was in charge. While the artists involved are not really the problem, it's the quality of songs.
Back in 1996 at the beginning of King Jonathan I's reign, it was agreed the standard was extremely high with 8 probable hits, 8 professional artists, 8 established and brilliant songwriters and many household names as well as some incredibly talented newcomers.
In year 1 we had the best selling eurovision song and in year 2 a winner for a group considered as "has beens"
One journalist from a daily newspaper who shall remain nameless, suggested it was crying out for another Jonathan King. Could there ever be another? I have to admit to having had an initial desire to stir up a few feelings and thoughts concerning the selection process and the entire Uk event. It didn't take me long to realise I didn't have to. There is a general apathy over the UK selection. Finland proved this year you don't need 20 neighbours to get a winner.
So JK would you do it again if asked ? And how would you do it this time?
