Thats AN opinion - but surely as narrow a view as the singer from Bloc Party (whos name escapes me) who stated 'lets make loads of noise to wake up the grandads at the pyramid stage...' inferring that Neil Young's music (who was on the Pyramid stage) would not only be played by musicians that are older than 30 but will be listened to, watched(!!), and enjoyed and inspired by music fans 'over 30'(which wasn't the case)!
...and this is someway was not as valid or as crucial or as uplifting as musicians under 30 (& I'm pretty sure the singer from Bloc Party is over 30..).He reckons he has some kind of social awareness - but if some had said 'lets wake up all the 'black people' or 'asylum seekers" - there would have been - quite rightly - an outcry!
Most of the 'grandads' he refers to would STILL leave him and his mates in the dust when it comes to innovation (ie not ripping off '80's bands), soul, musicianship and SONGS!
Have you heard Neil Young's sound? it thrashes most 'new' bands attempts at sonic trail blazing into the ground, plus he has ballads, love songs, and statements ('Rockin In The Free World'!!!).
And to look at? Neil Young comes from an age when rock music had a purpose, made social statements, was a force - & Neil Young has never compromised! Thats what I see when I look at Neil Young - not when I look at Will Young, who isn't related, so I believe!
No charisma? I think you should look again, JK.
& yes, i am over 50, still rockin in the free world (whats left of it)
