Re:Best song from the eighties that wasnt a hit 15 Years, 11 Months ago
Too many to count, and no YouTube at work for me, but my top 10 (today) would be...
AL JARREAU - L Is For Lover (written by Scritti Politti)
ARMOURY SHOW - We Can Be Brave Again (Big Music from post-Skids Richard Jobson)
BIG HEAT - Watch Me Catch Fire (produced by Elvis Costello!)
CRISTINA - Is That All There Is? (injuncted by Lieber & Stoller for lyric changes)
GINA X PERFORMANCE - No GDM (amongst La Roux, Little Boots & ladyhawke, could be released tomorrow and be a hit)
MARSHALL CRENSHAW - Whenever You're On My Mind
PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS - She's So Young
(the last 2 both great powerpop)
SHRIEKBACK - Lined Up (currently being used by channel 5 as background music for trailers)
STAN RIDGWAY & STEWART COPELAND - Don't Box Me In (theme from Coppola's "Rumble Fish")
WIRE - Kidney Bingos (a lost pop classic)

Nice to see Shriekback mentioned here. "Nemesis" and "Fsh Below The Ice" are classics. Check out Pink Military "Did You See Her" if you can find it.Maybe too depressing to be a hit was that one>

You Might Think by The Cars
Summer Of 69 by Bryan Adams
are two that stick out for me but am probably forgetting some. Both of the above were huge US hits though if i recall correctly so not sure if that counts.

One2Many and "Downtown" just stalled outside the top 40 in June 1989.It had originally made 65 six months earlier. Two other singles were also released "nearly There" and the beautiful "Writing on the Wall".The band were from Norway and split up soon after. The album "Mirror" is worth tracking down. It is certainly one of the best pop albums of the eighties.

Summer of 69 did not make the UK top 40. It reached 42 in August 85. Six out of his seven following singles did not make the UK top 40. Then he did that Robin Hood thing.

"Mary's Prayer" was a massive hit in the States in the latter half of the summer into fall of (I think 91). I still have the vinyl 45, and funny that its brought up as I listened to it maybe 2 months ago. Great song. Transporting song.

I'd have to have While You Wait by New Musik, a brilliant synth pop band who's lead singer Tony Mansfield went on to produce sone tracks on A-ha's first album.
Others include I Built The World by The Farmers Boys, a band signed and then ignored by EMI.
Leisure Process - A Way You'll Never Be.
Screen 3 - Come Into My Jungle
Fischer Z - So Long
B Movie - Nowhere Girl
