seems to be written by Falco (Rock Me Amadeus? Thought he was dead) and is an impassioned plea for people to stop stealing music until the very last words - he wants to make music "without living in poverty".
Wrong. True music makers want to make music. Period.

Falco living in poverty?. Not really surprised given the fact he was a one hit wonder if you dont count the After The Fire version of "Der Kommissar". In fact it was probably due to JK that he had a hit at all. Must have been on Entertainment USA at some point,or was it on No Limits?

Yes it was a rhetorical/tongue-in-cheek remark Giles. And yes, more than just featuring Amadeus on TV, it was me who heard it on a little station in Austria whilst on holiday, tracked it down, found it was on A&M, phoned my friend Jerry Moss and persuaded him to make it a global priority. I have a platinum disc for it on my wall.

I promise you SW, when I was penniless and so were some of the others, all we ever wanted to do was make music and we would happily have done it for free as long as people heard it.

That's still largely true for the vast majority of the bands and songwriters out there (I've been dealing with an awful lot of comments and requests since I did a piece on writers block). But what has changed is that the industry has lost 50% revenue over the past 10 years, and as the situation currently stands, music has become an expensive hobby for more people than before. The ceiling has been lowered considerably. Even the labels that have been created over the past 5-7 years have lower expectations than only 10-15 years ago; they are happy with the crumbs that are left. Personally, I think the P2P services should be licensed rather than penalised. But I have yet to see a P2P network offer to buy a licence.
