Written by former Northern Soul and "Heaven" DJ and Dr Who maniac Ian Levine who was also responsible for "Hi Energy" and "So Many Men So Little Time" as well as other Gay Anthems.
It must be fondly remembered as the Daily Mirror has produced a commemorative mug to celebrate it.
I seem to be wrong on this one. It seems the song was written by Bob Puzey who had produced and written for Billy Ocean and Russ Abbott. It was released on Ian Levines Record Shack label.Sorry for any confusion. As for how they came to make the record is anybodys guess.Im sure ive heard the story but cant remember where i read it. Funny enough this song was mentioned on Footy Mad/Fratton Faithful the Portsmouth FC fansite a while back. Well there wasnt any football and the takeover was going on a bit and think it was a bit of light relief.
It sold pretty well reaching number 12 in the charts I notice people find it embrassing now, but I think they are embrassed to admit it.
My brother hates football and hates anything to do with it but I played it to him and he liked not knowing it was pro footballers and I never told him.
